The Southside Chronicle – 22 March 2012

Our meeting this month will be held on Wednesday 28th March at the Weston Club at 7.30 pm.  We are likely to have two presentations/discussions at this meeting.

We are fortunate to have the Director General of the Economic Development Directorate, David Dawes coming along to talk about the Molonglo development and Council has raised a number of issues with him including an update on the Cotter Road and its widening to Adelaide Avenue and the wider impact of Molonglo on Weston Creek and Cooleman Court.

We may also have discussions in relation to Park and ride and Bike and Ride.  The ACT Government is looking to the further development and extension of the Park and Ride, Bike and Ride network of facilities and is undertaking a study to identify new suitable sites in various locations throughout the ACT and develop concept designs for them.

Bouquets to the Chief Minister who hosted a meeting of the Chairs of all the Community Councils earlier this month.  This was a great opportunity for the Combined Councils to put forward to the Chief Minister issues which affect us all.  Top of the list is Notification of developments with a more acceptable process and avenues of advice.  The second item is a more open Appeals Process on developments which provide for an empowerment of residents being able to appeal and a Consumer Advocate to assist in this process.  It is a great initiative and one that can benefit all of Canberra.

The development of the Master Plan for the Weston Group Centre continues and there will be a Public meeting on the 4th of April where the Draft Master Plan will be discussed in an open forum.

Council is looking into the possibility of taking over the Goyder Street Library which is closing.  Anyone interested in joining a Group of people interested in running such a venture should contact Council.

To keep up to date with all issues affecting Weston Creek please monitor the Weston Creek Community Council’s website at www.wccc.com.au .

I look forward to seeing you at the next Public meeting.
