Council cautiously welcomes the Chief Minister’s announcement today of $170 million for the last portion of John Gorton Drive including a bridge crossing the Molonglo River.
This funding is over a 4 year period and Council would want to see the proposed timeframe for the building of the bridge as we still say this needs to be advanced as it is of critical importance. We would not want to see the bridge take 8 years to build like the Leisure Centre in Stromlo Forest Park which was announced in the lead up to the 2012 election and opened a week ago in August 2020. There are other examples of similar delays with projects.
But it is pleasing that this has been announced.
Council would also welcome the support of the Liberal Party in building this bridge.
