Thanks to the local Community and some Council members, we have our own part of Floriade in Floriade Re-Imagined at the corner of Streeton Drive and Darwinia Terrace in Chapman.
It is in flower now and has its own group of Scarecrows to keep the birds away.
Look at the video to see the work that has been done and the finished flowering gardens now Continue reading
There are a range of issues that the Council has listed for politicians and political candidates to consider for the Murrumbidgee Electorate. Council continues to think about all our community. Please stay safe and continue your physical distancing, wash your hands and only go out when necessary. This edition includes information on monthly meetings, 2020 election night forum, election issues, surveys, Floriade, bridging the Molonglo, cycle paths, parking at Cooleman Court and the old AFP site.
Council cautiously welcomes the Chief Minister’s announcement today of $170 million for the last portion of John Gorton Drive including a bridge crossing the Molonglo River.
Once more Coppins Crossing was closed to traffic last week. It may be closed again with rain forecast this week.
Thanks to John Mungoven, a Member of the Weston Creek Community, we have a number of photos which show the debris and the height of the floodwaters over the weekend of the 8th and 9th of August.
This really shows why the high level bridge needs to be brought forward to connect north and south Molonglo as well as to provide another safe road to cross the Molonglo River.
Council has lodged comments opposing the request for a lease variation on Block 1 Section 17 in Coombs [Development Application 202037450] where the space required to be provided to be used by the Community in the original lease will essentially be lost of the Request is agreed to.
Coppin’s Crossing closed again by floodwaters, a crash on the Tuggeranong Parkway and traffic heading south stops. There is no alternate road travelling south across the Molonglo River west of Commonwealth Avenue bridge and a trip through the City. It is time to bring the construction of the High Level Bridge over the Molonglo River forward. Read Council’s further letter to Minister Steel.
Council has written to Minister’s Gentleman and Berry on the way to develop the Molonglo Commercial Centre stating that Council believes that the best outcome for residents of Molonglo would be achieved if the ACT Government sought the involvement of a major private sector partner to help deliver the entire Commercial Centre over a number of years. Council expects that there would be strong interest in such an offering from major national players in this market that could bring skills and innovative ideas to this important project.
This approach would be consistent with advice previously provided to the ACT Government on the development of the Molonglo Commercial Centre.
The Public meeting on August 26 is our scheduled AGM but at this time we are likely to defer the AGM until October as we doubt that it can be held in the current crisis. Continue reading
Minister Steel has responded to Council’s letter on the proposed parking space at Watling Place. Unfortunately he has maintained that the parking will go ahead despite the Community saying that it isn’t needed. Read the letter here Continue reading
