Chronicle – March 2011

The year started very well with the first Public Meeting held on Wednesday 23rd of February when a staff member of the ACT Electoral Commission provided a very detailed insight into the redistribution process for the ACT Legislative Assembly. Council is very appreciative of the Electoral Commission in providing a speaker at very short notice. Council has since lodged two Submissions with the Electoral Commission emphasising that Weston Creek is a single community and is best kept as a whole in the Molonglo Electorate. Copies of the Submissions can be seen on the Weston Creek Community Council website at www.wccc.com.au .

Our Meeting this month will be held on Wednesday the 30th of March at the Weston Club at 7.30 pm. Representatives of ACTEW will attend to provide an update on the Cotter Dam extension. We will also have representatives of ACTEWAGL along to provide information on a trial they plan to conduct in Weston Creek on a safety device named WireAlert.

Our second Combined Community Council’s Meeting will be held on Saturday 19 March. This will provide another opportunity for the Combined Councils to discuss matters which are common to all Councils in Canberra. These issues include, planning, development and redevelopment, public transport, parking and community facilities.

We continue to see resources of Government stretched to provide the services needed to maintain our neighbourhoods. Grass mowing has been an issue in many areas and I see great efforts being made to have the mowing done. I think that we all need to acknowledge that it has been an extremely wet summer and the growth has been abnormal. We should all just look at the way our gardens have grown to understand the issues facing the mowers.

Have your say to help shape Molonglo Valley Stage 2 by attending the ACT Planning and Land Authority Community Display and Forum to be held on Thursday 24th of March from 3.00 pm at St Peters Anglican Church Hall in Parkinson Street Weston – just across from Cooleman Court.
