In October of 2023, the previous Council made the decision to step aside from the committee roles, vacating all seats and passing the mantle for carriage of the Council into 2024.
We thank the previous custodians for their efforts and wish them well in their new endeavours.
As such, a new committee, full of some fresh and some familiar faces, has formed to continue the work of some amazing local residents who formed this Council in 1991. We continue to believe the Weston Creek District MUST have a voice and a collective platform to engage with our elected officials and the government.
In 2024, the Weston Creek Community Council is looking to grow as a grass roots engagement hub and we are currently reviewing the way we engage with our local community. We have developed a progressive, vibrant, inclusive model for our modern Council engagements in 2024 and we will be trialling new outreach models in order to grow our connections which include
- Pop up events at more convenient times and locations.
- A broader range of topics, a mix of venues and a variety of activities.
- Community engagement events that activate spaces and provide opportunities for community groups and local business to get involved.
- Town Hall or more convivial events for our Meet the Candidates Forum
We appreciate that people are very busy these days and it has become harder to engage on local issues so we are attempting to increase our availability at a variety of times.
If you are an individual or community group that would like to get involved, please let us know. The 2024 committee has a commitment to diversity and inclusion – we’d love to hear your thoughts on what can make our beautiful district a dynamic, safe and collaborative community.
