A belated Happy New Year to the residents of Weston Creek. Hopefully it will be a good year for all residents. There are a number of issues and matters going on at present including the Weston Group Centre Master Plan. Certainly the Master Plan is at the forefront of our thoughts and we all should continue to take the opportunity to provide comment on this.
Our first Public meeting for the year will be held on Wednesday 29th of February at the Weston Club at 7.30 pm. We will have two presentations/discussions at this meeting.
Helen Leayr from the Communication Link will make a short presentation on the preparation of Pre-Development Applications Community Consultation Guidelines. These arise from new requirements under the Planning and Building Legislation which require developers to consult with the Community before they lodge large scale development applications.
This will be followed by the Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Mr Shane Rattenbury, MLA, Speaking in his role as Chair of the ACT Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee of Administration and Procedure review of the Act Self Government Act. Included in this review will be the size of the Executive and the ACT Assembly.
Both of these provide opportunities for the Community to discuss issues that can affect us all.
This is also an election year and we should not miss the opportunity to ask all candidates and parties what they have in mind for Weston Creek. One would be hopeful that a new Community Centre that includes Meeting rooms and areas for Seniors and a library and its variety of uses would be forthcoming.
It was pleasing that funding has been provided in a second round of funding to enable the Weston Creek Festival to be held in spring this year. Council is grateful to MLA’s Jeremy Hanson and Caroline Le Couteur for raising this matter in the Assembly and for Deputy Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, approving the final funding.
