| Evening all,
Thanks everyone for continuing to engage with the Council.
The Councils upcoming focus is on planning within our areas and evolving our potential as a beautiful Inner West residential village for local residents to enjoy.
Some of the larger picture ideas we are developing outline a vision for Weston Creek that: includes:
- supporting the growth of our local schools by considering the renewal of facilities and programs for our kids
- discussing our unique design values for housing and development – namely our desire for more smaller boutique developments of townhouses and housing choices for first home buyers and downsizers wanting to stay in Weston Creek
- supporting urban nature landscape projects that foster a lovely bush capital feel
- focusing on wellbeing by keeping residents connected in this community through events and community space activations.
- identifying larger scale projects opportunities that will put Weston Creek on the map
- Western Edge development – working together with the government on the future of the semi-rural space at the end of Hindmarsh Drive
And that’s just to get us started.
We are looking for community members to help develop this vision and continue to chat with local members and stakeholders on our district plan. If you are passionate about the spaces we share and contributing to this shared vision, please consider coming to a meeting or reaching out to join one of our a workshops.
AUGUST MEETING
We have a meeting coming up – 7pm August 22nd – Raiders Club Weston – Loft Function Room
We have some lovely guest speakers attending, including:
– Woolworths Team
who will speak on the Woolworths redevelopment and Direct-to-Boot service at Cooleman Court.
We will also enquire about the traffic management plans for Brierly St on behalf of the Community.
– Jo Clay MLA – Greens Spokesperson for Planning
who’ll speak on the Greens planning position
If you are interested in either of these topics, please come along to our meeting. You get to speak directly with our guests, engage in great discussions and not only have your views heard but help to work on solutions with us. Also please reach out if there is something you would like added to an agenda or would like to speak on – new ideas are always welcome.
We’ll also have our local MLAs there for a chat on news from the Assembly.
NOTES FROM THE JULY MEETING:
A special thanks to Donna Hofmeir, ACT Policing who came along to the last meeting to provide and update on community policing. It is really great to meet our local Station Leaders, share information and thank them for their service as well.
A special thank you to Steven from TCCS for his updates on some local projects. As you all may know, Streeton Drive is moving along very quickly but he was also able to provide insights and take suggestions on other local areas in Weston Creek that don’t fall into the ‘Fix My Street’ pool. These included
- Blocked drain at the underpass of Streeton Drive near Mulley Street – the Roads ACT stormwater team will investigate and raise a work order to clear the drain along with any other maintenance required to address the water ponding issue.
- Spoon drains as a trip hazard for the elderly on footpath near McCubbin and Rivers Street – options to fill in or replace the drains at path intersections will be investigated by the Roads ACT stormwater team. Note that any works to address this may take some time to progress.
- Mt Stromlo Road condition – There is an awareness of the poor condition and to this end it is on a program for future rehabilitation. Short term maintenance will continue as an interim measure until more substantial rehabilitation works occur.
- Road safety near Chapman Primary School – has been added to the schools safety program for investigation.
- Streetlighting at Condor Street/McInnes Street – confirmed this location won’t be part of a detour associated with Namatjira Drive/Streeton Drive intersection project. A fault has been identified in below ground cables and a work order raised to address this. As it is below ground excavation will be required and these repairs take longer to plan for – as such resolution of the streetlight outage will take a bit of time.
- Road safety at Hindmarsh Drive/Darwinia Terrace – has been raised with the road safety area of Roads ACT to investigate.
There was also some great insights on Active travel planning and there will be some opportunities for the public to engage in some upcoming projects. We will keep you posted as we get info.

BRIERLY ST BLOCK PARTY
Thanks so much to those community groups that have reached out to get involved. We are almost at capacity now but please let us know if you have a group that would like to participate. We’ve had to pivot a little from our initial plan as Brierly St isn’t fully open… but we’ll have a lovely time that’s for sure!.
We are currently finalising the format and planning so will be in touch with everyone shortly.
This should be a wonderful community event so please pop it in your diaries!
