The ACT Govt Ecomomic Development Directorate has advised that ” … the discovery of previously unrecorded infrastructure at the intersection of Unwin Place and Streeton Drive will cause a delay of up to eight weeks in the re-opening of Dixon Drive.
“Despite soil testing and liaising closely with ACTEW Water prior to the commencement of construction, there was no evidence of the cement casing that is covering a large, high pressure water main, which will necessitate changes to the engineering of the new road.
“It is believed that the encasing of the main may have been undertaken in early 1920’s, however there are no known records available.
“The existing traffic arrangements will remain in place with traffic continuing to detour via Mulley Street until the work is completed, ensuring the safety of motorists, cyclists and construction workers.
