The Deputy Chief Minister has responded to earlier correspondence on the Public Renewal taskforce community issues. The consultations are on-going. The Weston Creek Community Council had earlier written to all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly outlining its concerns over the decisions made by the Public Housing Renewal Task Force on Public Housing and the Minister for Housing and Suburban Development. Approval for the work to construct storm water ponds and the associated landscapoing off Dixon Drive in Duffy/Holder has been made by the ACT Planning and Land Authority. The decision is made conditional on ACT Heritage endorsing the proposal. Continue reading

The ACT Government has sought comment on its City and Gateway Urban Renewal Strategy. WCCC feels quite strongly that the retention of the bushland character of the city is very important and should be considered in every project and at every stage of the implementation of this very ambitious plan. The Weston Creek Community Council has lodged a Submission on the Canberra Light Rail network Plan. The WCCC does not support the Civic to Gungahlin light rail route as an appropriate Stage 1 Route for Canberra. This corridor is simply too biased in favour of one side of Canberra, and doesn’t service enough people and key destinations to be viable.… Continue reading
