Floriade Re-Imagined in Chapman

Thanks to the local Community and some Council members, we have our own part of Floriade in Floriade Re-Imagined at the corner of Streeton Drive and Darwinia Terrace in Chapman.

It is in flower now and has its own group of Scarecrows to keep the birds away.

Council opposes Request for Lease Variation On Community Zoned Land

Council has lodged comments opposing the request for a lease variation on Block 1 Section 17 in Coombs [Development Application 202037450] where the space required to be provided to be used by the Community in the original lease will essentially be lost of the Request is agreed to.

Council writes to Minister’s Gentleman and Berry on the way to Develop the Molonglo Commercial Centre 

Council has written to Minister’s Gentleman and Berry on the way to develop the Molonglo Commercial Centre stating that Council believes that the best outcome for residents of Molonglo would be achieved if the ACT Government sought the involvement of a major private sector partner to help deliver the entire Commercial Centre over a number of years. Council expects that there would be strong interest in such an offering from major national players in this market that could bring skills and innovative ideas to this important project.
This approach would be consistent with advice previously provided to the ACT Government on the development of the Molonglo Commercial Centre.

A Disappointing Response from Minister Gentleman on the Coombs Shops

Council has finally received a response to its letter of 11 March. Waiting for over 3 months for a letter that provides no answer to the Coombs Shops debacle really does disappoint. The answer is wait for Koko to open at the end of probably 2021, another 18 months away, and the future Molonglo Group Centre sometime in the future. Development Application lodged for the “Temporary” Car Park at Cooleman Court

Despite Council writing to Minister Steel advising him that the now 65 car park spaces could be found from a review of the current parking in and around Cooleman Court, Government has gone ahead and lodged a Development Application.  We would encourage you to lodge comments on this proposal pointing out that there is no need for it now.
