The Saga of Coppins Crossing

Once more Coppins Crossing was closed to traffic last week.  It may be closed again with rain forecast this week.
Thanks to John Mungoven, a Member of the Weston Creek Community, we have a number of photos which show the debris and the height of the floodwaters over the weekend of the 8th and 9th of August.
This really shows why the high level bridge needs to be brought forward to connect north and south Molonglo as well as to provide another safe road to cross the Molonglo River.

CHAOS ON THE PARKWAY AGAIN – bring the Molonglo River High Level Bridge Forward

Coppin’s Crossing closed again by floodwaters, a crash on the Tuggeranong Parkway and traffic heading south stops.  There is no alternate road travelling south across the Molonglo River west of Commonwealth Avenue bridge and a trip through the City.  It is time to bring the construction of the High Level Bridge over the Molonglo River forward.  Read Council’s further letter to Minister Steel.

Council writes to Minister’s Gentleman and Berry on the way to Develop the Molonglo Commercial Centre 

Council has written to Minister’s Gentleman and Berry on the way to develop the Molonglo Commercial Centre stating that Council believes that the best outcome for residents of Molonglo would be achieved if the ACT Government sought the involvement of a major private sector partner to help deliver the entire Commercial Centre over a number of years. Council expects that there would be strong interest in such an offering from major national players in this market that could bring skills and innovative ideas to this important project.
This approach would be consistent with advice previously provided to the ACT Government on the development of the Molonglo Commercial Centre.

Development Application lodged for the “Temporary” Car Park at Cooleman Court

Despite Council writing to Minister Steel advising him that the now 65 car park spaces could be found from a review of the current parking in and around Cooleman Court, Government has gone ahead and lodged a Development Application.  We would encourage you to lodge comments on this proposal pointing out that there is no need for it now. Council asks Chief Minister to bring forward the Construction of the Bridge over the Molonglo River.

Council has written to the Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, asking him to bring forwar the building of the bridge over the Molonglo River in Molonglo.  This will have many benefits including linking the two parts of Molonglo as Whitlam develops, the provision of another infrastructure project in this current pandemic crisis and a safe second route north south to the west of Commonwealth Avenue.
